Sylvia Holla is affiliated with the University of Amsterdam as a PhD candidate and, until recently, as a lecturer teaching courses in sociological theory and cultural sociology. She currently works as scientific researcher at Atria, the Dutch Institute on Gender Equality and Women’s History. She is an editorial board member of Sociologie, and has co-edited the book The Sexparadox. The Netherlands after the Sexual Revolution (Boom Lemma Publishers, 2014). Throughout her studies and work she focuses on the body, more specifically, the sexual and gendered body, and the body beautiful. In her dissertation on aesthetic labor in the European modeling industry, she explores the relation between corporeal aesthetics, labor and the self. She expects to defend her dissertation in the course of 2016.
